The height of a floor lamp shade should be approximately the height of the base x 30 to 40. The height of the lampshade should be 2 3 the height of the lamp base. Bottom denotes the diameter or width of the bottom of the lamp shade. To choose the right lamp shade width measure your lamp base and multiply by two. The widest part of your shade should be at least a half inch wider than the widest part of your base on each side. The height of a table lamp shade should be approximately the height of the base to bottom of socket x 60 up to 70.

If your shade has a square shape measure one side of the square from corner to corner for the proper measurement.
